The figure of a young girl, in pure 18 carat gold set with the finest diamonds, represents youth, ambition, and spirit. She has just discovered her wings and, arching her back, is about to take flight to the stars. The Flight of Ecstasy takes inspiration from Rolls Royce's iconic hood ornament the Spirit of Ecstasy - a figure portraying rapture of the highest order. It represents the beginning of an adventure, the overcoming of fear, and the sheer ecstasy experienced from speed and freedom. Recall the excitement of riding a bicycle at full speed down a hill for the first time in your life - you believe that you can take your hands off the bars and simply take flight. It is that moment, half in this world and half in that of fantasy, that this statue captures with eloquence and grace.

A mighty Gryphon crouching in tension is prepared to jump. Its eyes blaze with precious cat's eye gemstones; its wings shine magnificently with fossilised ammolite, a rare gemstone only found in the Northern wilderness of Canada. The Gryphon has dominion where it stands and is ready for its next conquest. The Gryphon’s story begins on the steppes of Eurasia, with the ancient Scythian people. At one time, Scythians could find gold nuggets on the surface of the ground or in streams. However, when these sources were exhausted, they traced the elusive metal to the mountains. Scythians began to dig in caves where they found not only gold but also fossilised bones of what we know recognise as the dinosaur Protoceratops. The Scythians surmised that these creatures were winged lions, and the mythical story of gryphons soon spread from Scythia to Greece and beyond.

A wise ape looks on with wonder and concentration at a treasure in its hands. Able to master its animal impulses and direct its energy, it transforms from a child into a sage. Production of this statue required a solid block of Burmese jadeite weighing over 1kg. The style of the pedestal follows the tradition of Imperial European masters, using gilded metal and finely ornamented enamel set with precious gems. In the past, these types of figurines used to adorn the rooms of European royalty who appreciated exotic stones and fine art.
